The crisis in Haiti continues to worsen. In the face of massive violence and sexual assault, which are commonplace, the people of the Caribbean state live far from security and peace. In the Security Council, Switzerland welcomed the fact that some political progress has been made, but that this is threatened by ongoing violence.

In New York, Switzerland emphasised the need to break the vicious circle of violence, insecurity and poverty in Haiti. In view of this, it called for rapid, safe and unimpeded access for humanitarian actors to all people in need. To overcome the crisis, Switzerland emphasised that the implementation of the mandate of the United Nations Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti (MSS) is a key factor in restoring peace and security in the country.

In addition, Switzerland stressed the need to hold those responsible for crimes committed in the context of gang violence accountable. Furthermore, it underlined that the influx of weapons into Haiti poses a direct threat to security and peace. It therefore welcomed the Security Council's unanimous renewal of the arms embargo on 18 October 2024 and called for the sanctions regime to be fully implemented.

As part of its emergency aid, Switzerland actively supported efforts to provide medical assistance to the victims of gang violence while also raising awareness among local actors and strengthening them.
